Valentine's For A Toddler

Last Valentine's day Luka was about to turn one, so there wasn't much celebrating for him.  This year is different. He is aware of his surroundings and he understands when something "fun" is going on, so I thought we could start a new tradition, to have a mami-son Valentine's Day celebration. Spend part of the day doing something that would excite him and make him feel special.

I knew I wanted to do something that he could look back on when he is older.  Something that would remind him of the special bond we share. I also wanted to do something fun, a cool activity or maybe a yummy treat.  And then...Cookies! That's it! My boy knows what he likes, and cookies are not only his favorite treat but also one of his first words.

To satisfy my mama heart, I decided to write to him.  Something I could put away in his baby book.  A short, heartfelt note that would describe our day together, maybe a few words about our favorite things to do together, or a sentence or two on my hopes for his future.  To me, this day must be about what we LOVE about each other and what we LOVE to DO with each other.

To satisfy his sweet tooth, two or three chip-less chocolate chip cookies, his favorites, wrapped up in cellophane paper to give it the feel of a special gift.  Everything, from the unwrapping, to the anxious wait to eat them later on the day, this was going to be the best day ever!

Who says toddlers can't enjoy Valentine's Day? You know what pulls on your little's one heart.  It might not be a treat they enjoy.  It might be more time at the park or some extra cuddling while watching their favorite show or movie.  At the end of the day, it is about making them feel special.  I'm sure our boy will be feeling the love.
